Steve is a trial lawyer with significant experience in all aspects of litigation, from administrative hearings through appeals to the Utah Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals.  Although his practice focuses on medical malpractice and skilled nursing facility defense, Steve has varying trial experience including plaintiff’s personal injury, employment/vicarious liability, complex land use, contract, and business litigation.  Steve also advises clients on HIPAA compliance and is one of only a few lawyers in Utah with extensive experience shepherding clients through HIPAA breach notifications, and HIPAA investigations and compliance reviews by the Office for Civil Rights.

Steve grew up in rural Oklahoma and New Mexico. After a brief career as a professional bicycle racer, he attended the University of Redlands in Redlands, California, where he earned his B.A. in 1994, graduating with honors. Following his undergraduate work, Steve coordinated the recovery of human organs and tissues for transplant in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Salt Lake City.  He then returned to Oklahoma to attend law school at the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he graduated with distinction in 2003.
